Hello RapidMiner Team

I know this question is quite ridiculous after the release of rm 4.3, but: When do you plan to release RapidMiner 5.0 ?

Please correct me if I am wrong. Rm 4.3 was meant primarily as bug release (although it contained a lot of nice new features), was it ? Furthermore, there are no releases planned until the relase of rm 5.0 ?

I am just asking because I stumbled upon another "nominal-value-error", which forced me again to perform my ETL processes with another tool. Additionally I am writing a plugin and hence want to know whether it is worth the time to make the code more than a crappy prototype.

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all of you  Smiley

Hi Steffen,
currently we are planning to release it in fall 2009. But since there are some major changes this is only a rough estimate.
And of course redesigning the handling of nominal values is one of the most important to dos.

The api will be unchanged in nearly all parts, ecxept some deeper and not recommended methods like memoryExampleTable access. There will be still an exmapleSet, and there will be an example. Operators might be extended in one way or another, but we will make the greatest efforts to keep all "old" methods even if they are deprecated and not longer the nicest or fastest way.
Only the mappings might vanish completely...

Greetings,

Hello Sebastian ...

and thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am doing a lot of work on the level of MemoryExampleTable ... but thanks to your estimation of the release date I know now that it IS worth the time.

regards,

Steffen

Hi,

for all of you who are eager to get news about the next major release of RapidMiner, we have a little surpise: a first screenshot of the current state of the new graph based process design of RapidMiner 5.0. In the next version of RapidMiner, it will be possible to use a data flow design like that known from Clementine  as well as the operator tree based design known from previous versions of RapidMiner. Here is a small glimpse:

Please note that this is not the final look of the data flow visualization but you should at least get the feeling what will be possible with RapidMiner 5.0. And as you can see, keeping both options (the tree as well as the flow) fills the gap between the efficiency of the operator tree (drawing all those arrows takes soooo much time  Wink ) and the easiness of a flow / graph based layout when it comes to visualizing and understanding the data flows.

From time to time we will reveal some details about RapidMiner 5 so please stay tuned and let us know what you think.

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi,

I'm going to start my thesis in late september / early october. Right now I'm asking myself whether I should wait for RM5 (as I have to develop some operators involving uses of MemoryExampleTable and nominal mappings).

Sebastian wrote you're planning to release it in fall 2009. Is this still correct? Can you give an (more) concrete date?

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

yes, the release is still planned for fall 2009. Depending on the outcome of the alpha test, it is very likely that a public beta release will start end of September / beginning of October. From there, we do not expect too many major codebase changes. The final version will then be released October or November at the latest if everything goes well.

Cheers,
Ingo
