Hi Folks,

the RapidMiner Manual is now available in German. An English translation is in progress and will be available in the near future (about July).

You can download the German version from the rapid-i home page:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/yale/files/1.%20RapidMiner/5.0/rapidminer-5.0-manual-german.pdf/download

http://rapid-i.com/content/view/26/84/ respectively.

The English Manual:

Ciao Sebastian

The translation has not yet been finished and we will need another proof-read iteration but it is pretty much sure that we will release the documentation in July.

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to let you know that we have just released the English version of the new RapidMiner 5.0 manual  Cheesy

You can download the new English version together with a slightly updated German version from the Rapid-I web page:

http://rapid-i.com/content/view/26/84/

The link can be found in the documentation section of this page below the other download links. We hope you enjoy the manual and that it helps you together with the video tutorials we provide to get the basic concepts of RapidMiner.

Cheers,
Ingo

Do you intend to create User Guide, Operator Reference and Developer Tutorial manuals for RapidMiner 5, as you did for RM 4.4, 4.6?

Thanks,
Lucian

Hi Lucian,

yes, in some sense. The new English / German manual replaces the old tutorial and gui manual. The operator reference is now directly part of the program (did you notice the help views which change if you select an operator?) and will be published as Wiki soon. By the way, this wiki can also be edited by our community which should help to improve the documentation and keep it up to date.

The Developer Tutorial is now available in our shop:

http://rapid-i.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,flypage.tpl/product_id,52/category_id,5/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,180/

This white paper covers how you can extend RapidMiner by own operators and extensions. We are currently working on a second part which will cover all issues dealing with the integration of RapidMiner into other applications.

Cheers,
Ingo

Hi,

when will be the second part, witch is dealing with integrating rm into other apps,l be available? Are you going to ship it together with the other developers manual (extending rm), or will you serve to different manuals?

Cheers, Philippe

Hi Phillipe,

we have planned the release of the second part for December but right now it looks more like the end of January, sorry. We will offer two different manuals then.

Ingo

Hi,

yes, it's English.

But you did notice the small link "English" at the top of our page, yes? At least for me the navigation is shown in English then...

Hi Matthias,

no, we did not meant it - but right now we start to believe that it could take until then  Wink

Actually, an estimation is pretty hard since all of us are integrated into projects and development efforts right now. Which brings me to another idea: We are hiring again and maybe somebody new could take away some bits of this work so that we can eventually finish this d*mn thing...  Sad

Sorry, but the only thing I can say right now is the old "It's done when it's done"...
Cheers,

Hi, I have tried using RapidMiner for a while but I found it really hard to follow your documentation in the software.
Don't get me wrong!
I love your software. Just wanted to say that you need to improve more on this.

Hi bangshws,

thanks for your comment. May I ask in which respect you find the documentation hard to follow? Or how you think it could be improved? This would help to further improve the documentation.

Cheers,
Ingo

For example, let's consider the Decision Tree operator. My class's just had one tutorial on that one.

Our lecturer asked us to experiment different criteria: gain_ratio, information_gain, gini_index, and accuracy.

In our textbook, we can read about how to calculate the impurity of partitions when developing a decision tree. But then what is gain_ratio, and so on.

We searched in the help of the software and on your website. It's just so hard to follow. At least, there should be a link in the help pointing to some websites which can show us what the meaning and how those measures are calculated.

Hope that helps! (many of my classmates are complaining as well)
