KDnuggets.com is the leading web portal for information on data mining and knowledge discovery and KDnuggets News has been widely recognized as the leading newsletter on data mining and knowledge discovery reaching more than 11,000 professionals (subscribers) twice a month. Once each year, KDnuggets asks its readers “What data mining tools have you used for a real project (not just for evaluation) in the past 6 months?” This year, for the third year in a row in this KDnuggets poll, RapidMiner was again selected as the number 1 among the open source data mining tools. According to the poll, the most widely used data mining tool overall (open and closed source) is SPSS PASW Modeler (Clementine), with RapidMiner following directly on the second place.

The number of votes for RapidMiner increased by 78% compared to last year’s poll making RapidMiner’s user base the second fastest growing among all data mining tools and the fastest growing among the open source solutions. Hence RapidMiner is not only the most widely used open source data mining software, but also the one that spreads the fastest. By now, already 21% of all interviewed data mining experts use RapidMiner. The fact, that companies like SAS and SPSS have been in the market with their tools for more than 40 years, while the software RapidMiner was introduced only eight years ago, illustrates the enormous growth of the RapidMiner user base and market share.
